This game marks the fifth major installment in the Batman: Arkham series and is set five years after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. Notably, Batman is not the central character in this installment, although he still makes appearances, posthumously voiced by Kevin Conroy in his final portrayal of Batman. Instead, the focus is on the DC Comics supervillain/anti-hero team known as the Suicide Squad, assembled by Amanda Waller. Their mission is to thwart the alien invader Brainiac, who has brainwashed members of the Justice League, turning them into threats that must be eliminated.

"Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League" is an action-adventure game with a unique blend of genres, set in an open-world rendition of Metropolis. The game offers four playable characters: Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark. While it can be played solo, it also includes a cooperative multiplayer mode for up to four players. When playing solo, players have the freedom to switch between characters, with AI controlling the others.

This game takes place in the same universe as the Batman: Arkham series, occurring five years after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. Amanda Waller, portrayed by Debra Wilson, assembles the Suicide Squad, composed of Arkham Asylum inmates Harley Quinn (Tara Strong), Captain Boomerang (Daniel Lapaine), Deadshot (Bumper Robinson), and King Shark (Samoa Joe), for a secret mission in Metropolis. Upon arrival, they discover the dire situation: Brainiac has invaded Earth and is manipulating its inhabitants, including Justice League members like Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Batman (voiced by Kevin Conroy), while Wonder Woman remains unaffected. With reluctant assistance from Wonder Woman, it falls to the Suicide Squad to rescue the world by freeing the Justice League from Brainiac's control and stopping Brainiac himself from taking over Metropolis and the entire world.

The concept of a video game based on the Suicide Squad was first discussed by DC Comics' Geoff Johns in 2010 and was further developed in 2012. Hints about the Suicide Squad's formation were dropped in various Batman: Arkham games. Despite rumors, no official announcement was made until Rocksteady Studios unveiled "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League" in August 2020. This game continues plot elements from the Batman: Arkham series, including the Joker's demise and the revelation of Batman's true identity as Bruce Wayne. Additionally, Rocksteady is receiving support from Unbroken Studios in the game's development.
